On February 24, the Fergana-based blogger Guli (Gulnoz) Mirzayeva was arrested by officers of the Muborak District Police Department of the Qashqadaryo Region. According to officially unconfirmed information, she is suspected of extortion. Mirzayeva allegedly "demanded money in exchange for not criticising the management of the Muborak gas processing plant". The blogger is currently under arrest and under investigation. At the moment, there is no official comment on the case, and the details of the criminal case are unknown. Mirzayeva criticised president Shavkat Mirziyoyev and members of his family, in particular, his eldest daughter Saida Mirziyoyeva, in her social media posts. Guli Mirzayeva demanded that the Uzbek authorities officially register the opposition democratic party Haqiqat, Taraqqiyot va Birdamlik (Truth, Development and Unity).
