The Swedish company GN Tobacco Sweden filed a lawsuit against the founder of the Russian-language newspaper Golos Armenii (Voice of Armenia) of Golos, LLC demanding publication of a retraction and payment of compensation for libel in the amount of 2 million and for insult, 1 million drams (a total of US $6,248). The reason for the lawsuit was the article about a Swedish tobacco product sold in Armenia under the name “snus,” which is a replacement for tobacco and has a dubious reputation – its sale is prohibited in the European Union (with the exception of Sweden) and Russia. The lawsuit has been accepted and is pending trial.
