Sokolov was detained on Red Square in Moscow together with picketer Viktor Nemytov, who was holding a poster with the word «maidan» on it. The police drew up a report on the journalist under Part 5 of Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Russian Federation (violation of the rules of holding a public event) on the grounds that he was not wearing a «Press» vest. Sokolov was fulfilling an editorial assignment and filming an individual picket on Red Square in accordance with the law on mass media, Sota reported.
