On December 14, the editor of the news website Oragir.news Gevorg Emin-Teryan wrote on his Facebook page: «As a sign of protest (against the policy of the authorities) we should burn the Christmas tree on the square (meaning the main Christmas tree of the country on the capital’s Republic Square)». After that, the journalist was summoned to the police and interrogated. He was charged under Paragraph 3 of Part 2 of Article 329 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, which stipulates liability for «public expression against a person or a group of persons aimed at inciting or propaganda of hatred, discrimination, intolerance or enmity and based on racial, national, ethnic or social origin, religion, political or other views or personal or other circumstances of social nature, as well as dissemination of material or an object for this purpose through the use of communication technologies».
