On July 22, the judge of the administrative court in Kostanay, Sabyr Tazhkenov, demanded that Nasha Gazeta journalist Georgy Govorov, who had come to cover a trial on charges of defamation against a correspondent of the news agency, not publish an article about the case until after the trial. Later, the judge stated that all observers, including Govorov, had to sign a nondisclosure agreement. After the journalist refused to meet these requirements, the judge ordered that Govorov not be allowed to the next session. The editorial board sent a complaint to the regional court. On July 29, Judge Sabyr Tazhkenov started the trial with all the journalists and human rights activists who came.
