The Moscow Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case against Galina Timchenko, founder and publisher of Meduza, for organising the activities of an “undesirable” organisation (part 3 of article 284.1 of the Criminal Code). According to the investigation, in September 2024 and March 2025, Timchenko published videos “to stir up protest sentiments among citizens” and “to involve them in the activities of an undesirable organisation.” The Investigative Committee's statement does not specify which videos are in question. Meduza was recognised as an “undesirable” organisation in January 2023. According to the Prosecutor General's Office, the publication's activities “pose a threat to the foundations of the constitutional order and security of the Russian Federation.”
