The Cheremushki District Court in Moscow has formally charged Galina Timchenko, publisher of Meduza, with leading an “undesirable organisation” (Part 3 of Article 284.1 of the Criminal Code). According to the indictment, Timchenko founded Meduza “out of hatred and contempt for the country’s state system” and for “the domestic and foreign policy of the current government.” The charges further allege that, after the outlet was designated an “undesirable organisation”, she intended to continue its activities in order to remain “within the country’s information space”. The criminal case is based on two video interviews with Timchenko and a video message in which she called for donations to the publication.
