On August 17, the ruling party Civil Contract filed a lawsuit with the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction against the founder of the news website Fip.am, NGO Union of Informed Citizens, demanding refutation of the information considered libel and monetary compensation for damage. The reason for the lawsuit was the investigative video material published on the above-mentioned website on July 21 under the title «Civil Contract, using administrative resources of other communities, collects votes for Avinyan». It should be reminded that in the upcoming elections of the Council of Elders of Yerevan, Tigran Avinyan is a candidate of the ruling party and a likely contender for the position of the capital’s mayor. On August 25, the lawsuit was accepted for proceedings. The court also granted the plaintiff’s motion to ban the defendant’s property in the amount of AMD 1 million (over USD 2,500).
