Police detained Evgeny while covering a protest against the presidential election results. During the arrest, they beat him with truncheons. He was taken to a pre-trial detention centre, where he was left overnight until the trial. A protocol was drawn on violation of the legislation on mass events. On 11 August, the court found the journalist guilty and arrested him for 12 days.
