On November 7, when opening the publication «Kazakhstan: Tokayev’s election campaign strives for legitimacy bump» on the Eurasianet website, it was reported that the article was removed at the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan. According to the media’s editorial board, a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan cited the ban on journalists of foreign media offices to publish in the absence of accreditation and said that in case of refusal to remove the article in question both Eurasianet and its journalists may be subject to certain «measures». Eurasianet notes that it «has long relied on a network of independent freelance writers, in addition to accredited journalists, in Kazakhstan and neighboring countries». On the evening of November 10, after the legal issue was resolved, the publication «Kazakhstan: Tokayev’s election campaign strives for legitimacy bump» became available to readers again.
