The journalist was detained by the police when she covered a protest rally in the city's centre. She was taken to the police department, charged with participation in an unauthorized event (Article 23.34 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus). She was held in the detention centre for three days until the trial. On November 10, the court found Karpitskaya guilty based on the police report and arrested her for 15 days. At the police department, the officers took her jacket and kept her outside for several hours without any outerwear while it was cold. After her detention, she was not fed for 24 hours.
