Investigative journalist Dzianis Ivashin was charged with a new offence under Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (treason). This became known from the response of the KGB Department of the Hrodna Region, which was received by the journalist’s wife Volha Ivashina at the end of October. The journalist faces 7 to 15 years of imprisonment under this article. Ivashin was detained on March 12, 2021 on suspicion of violating Article 365 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (interference in the activities of an employee of the internal affairs bodies). The day before, the journalist published an investigation in the newspaper Novy Chas about the fighters of the Berkut special unit, disbanded in Ukraine, who joined the Belarusian police.
