Russian soldiers detained Dmytro Khilyuk in the village of Kozarovychi in early March, according to the Media Initiative for Human Rights, a local press group, and a relative of the journalist who spoke to the Committee to Protect Journalists in a telephone interview. The journalist's relative said that he called her on March 3 and told her that Russian soldiers had searched the house where he lives with his parents, confiscated their phones and SIM cards, and checked Hilyuk's posts on social media. Khilyuk and his father were detained around March 4. On March 10, the Russian military released Hilyuk's father, and the other detainees, including Khilyuk, were taken to the nearby town of Dymer.
