Police officer Artyom Stolyarchuk filed a lawsuit with civil court to protect his honour, dignity, and business reputation against SAPMAR LLP (analytical internet portal Ratel.kz) and correspondent of Ratel.kz Dmitry Matveyev. The plaintiff demanded to recognise the information disseminated in Matveyev’s article as untrue and defamatory, to oblige the defendants to publish a refutation and to recover KZT 2 million from the journalist and media outlet as compensation for moral damage. On June 29, the court partially satisfied the claims, recognising the headline of the publication and the information that A. Stolyarchuk was sent to the pre-trial detention centre as untrue and defamatory. According to the court decision, the defendants should publish a refutation, compensate jointly KZT 140,000 of moral damage, KZT 150,000 of representative expenses, and state duty.
