Police officer Artyom Stolyarchuk filed a civil lawsuit for the protection of honor, dignity, and business reputation against SAPMAR LLP (Ratel.kz analytical Internet portal) and the Ratel.kz correspondent Dmitry Matveyev. The plaintiff demanded that the information in Matveyev's article be declared false and defamatory, that the defendants be obliged to provide a refutation, and that KZT 2,000,000 be recovered from the journalist and the media as compensation for moral damage. On June 29, the court partially satisfied the claims, recognizing the title of the publication and the information that A.Stolyarchuk was sent to the detention center as false and discrediting his honor and dignity. According to the court decision, the defendants must publish a refutation and jointly pay KZT 140,000 for moral damage, KZT 150,000 for representation expenses, and the state fee.
