Additional information:
A criminal case has been initiated against Yekaterinburg journalist Dmitry Fomintsev, former editor-in-chief of Tochka News and creator of the Telegram channel Irod Uralsky, on charges of “justifying terrorism” (under Article 205.2 of the Russian Criminal Code). The case stems from a post on his Telegram channel commenting on the December 2024 killing of Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, head of Russia’s radiation, chemical, and biological defense forces, who was shot dead in Moscow. In July 2024, Russia’s Interior Ministry added Fomintsev to the federal wanted list. Earlier, Tochka News’s offices were searched as part of a separate criminal case for “insulting the feelings of believers” (Article 148). Fomintsev was initially treated as a witness in that case but was later designated a suspect. He has since shut down Tochka News and left the country.
