In response to the blocking of the websites of RIA Novosti, Izvestia and Rossiyskaya Gazeta in Europe as part of the EU's 14th sanctions package, the Russian authorities announced a retaliatory carpet blocking of European media. Eighty-one European media outlets have been banned.
