Blogger Dias Kuzairov was found guilty of insulting a government official using social media (Part 2 of Article 378 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan). He was sentenced to a fine of approximately USD 130. On the night of May 16, two police officers came to Kuzairov’s home to deliver a summons. Dias refused to take the summons because it was late and his child was asleep. However, the police officers continued to insist. Kuzairov called the policemen criminals, while broadcasting the entire incident live on his YouTube channel. The official expertise concluded that the word «troublemakers» was an insult to the honor and dignity of the police officers. An alternative expertise, presented by the blogger’s lawyer, showed that in the situation considered «troublemakers» is not an insult, because the offensive language includes, first of all, the swear words and expressions.
