On September 17, Davron Nasibkhonov, the correspondent of Voice of America’s Uzbek editorial office in Kyrgyzstan, was beaten by unknown assailants. The journalist had come to the central square near the Osh City Hall to prepare a report on the humanitarian aid organized for the residents of the Batken region who had suffered as a result of the fighting on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border. Two unknown men in civilian clothes ran up to him. One of them was holding a knife. The unknown men thought the journalist was a «Tajik spy» and started taking him aside. After several blows, he lost consciousness and fell to the ground. Nasibkhonov was taken out of the crowd by a police officer, after which he was taken away from the scene. The journalist was brought to the building of the Directorate of the State Committee of National Security. Inside the car, an officer in civilian clothes briefly interrogated him. The journalist assumes that this person could be an employee of the Kyrgyz special services.
