On 10 March, border police at the Upper Lars checkpoint denied entry to Georgia to David Frenkel, a photojournalist for the Russian outlet MediaZona. The grounds for the denial were not specified or explained. Frenkel's wife, lawyer Varvara Mikhailova, wrote on Twitter: "We were on the road to the border for 40 hours, we've been waiting for 2 days for it to be opened after the threat of an avalanche, we've been waiting on the Russian side for 8 hours, we've been waiting for 14 (!) hours on the Georgian side – only for my husband, journalist David Frenkel, to be refused entry to Georgia with the wording "other reasons."
