A court arrested the editor of Altay News, Daryn Nursapar, for 15 days on charges of participating in an unauthorized rally (Part 6 of Article 488 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Kazakhstan). According to his colleagues, on January 7, law enforcement officers came to his home and «took him away». On January 9, the court ruling was issued. Journalists of the East Kazakhstan-based ShygysAkparat holding company were forbidden to attend the rallies by the management. Nevertheless, Nursapar considered it his professional duty to cover the extraordinary events in the city. On January 5, he filmed the rally in Oskemen and published the videos on his Facebook page.
