The Judicial Collegium for Criminal Cases of the Almaty City Court upheld the conviction of Kazakhstani blogger Danat Namazbayev. On March 14, 2022, Namazbayev was sentenced to five years in prison on charges of «propaganda or public calls for the forcible seizure of power» (Article 179 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan) for two posts on Facebook. In one of his posts, the blogger spoke against corruption in Kazakhstan, in the other — against the war in Ukraine. The convict’s attorneys consider the sentence illegal. According to the defense, there is absolutely no «call» for the overthrow or seizure of power in the actions of Namazbayev.
