On December 19, a car in which independent reporter Claudio Locatelli, independent photographer Niccolò Celesti, and their interpreter were traveling was fired upon. The car was clearly marked «Press» on the surface, and Celesti told that they were shot at from the opposite bank of the Dnieper river, where the Russian army had moved after leaving Kherson in November. Therefore, Celesti is «99% sure that [they] were shot at deliberately»; he also added that «it was too close. The timing was perfect». The car windows were shattered by the gunfire, and shards of glass hit Locatelli’s ear and neck. Fortunately, the media workers suffered minor injuries and were able to return to work after receiving medical attention.
