The Union of Journalists of Armenia, its chairman Satik Seyranyan and 168 Zham LLC (founder of 168.am news website) filed a lawsuit with the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction against the news website Civic.am and Ashot Melikyan, chairman of the NGO Committee to Protect Freedom of Expression, with demands to refute the information considered libel and compensate the damage caused to the honor and/or business reputation. The reason for the lawsuit was the interview with Ashot Melikyan published in Civic.am on January 31. Answering the journalist’s question on the congress of the Union of Journalists that took place on January 29, he stated: «It was not the congress of the Union of Journalists, but rather the alliance of Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan propagandists, convened to determine their future actions and choose the leader of the organization that serves the interests of this camp». The lawsuit is being considered.
