In the midst of the presidential election campaign, Bogdan Tirdea, a deputy of the ruling party, published a book attacking several NGOs and independent media, whom Tirdea accused of being "cuttlefish", "sharks", "mercenaries", "foreign agents" who work for George Soros and foreign funds against the Socialist Party and promote Maia Sandu as a presidential candidate. Among the NGOs attacked by the deputy were: Independent Press Association (API), RISE Moldova, Center of Investigative Journalism and The Independent Journalism Center.
