In Shymkent, the camera crew of the KTK TV channel was attacked during the mass riots. Journalist Bek Abiyev and cameraman Yevgeny Sergienko arrived at the akimat to film footage of the rally. Unknown men threatened the camera crew, tried to break their camera, and did not let the TV channel's car leave the square. Bek Abiyev managed to persuade the protesters to let the film crew go. Later, it turned out that the TV channel's microphone had been stolen from the car.
