On February 2, the Bishkek City Court considered the appeal of the lawyers of the previously detained journalist Azamat Ishenbekov (akyn Ayt Ayt Dese), who is charged under Part 3 of Article 278 (calls for active disobedience to the lawful demands of representatives of the authorities and mass riots, as well as calls for violence against citizens) of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. Ishenbekov is one of 11 journalists detained as part of the criminal case initiated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. On January 16, Ishenbekov’s flat was searched and the journalist was detained and arrested. On January 17, the Pervomaysky District Court of Bishkek imposed a measure of restraint for the journalists in the form of arrest for two months with detention in a pre-trial detention centre.
