The 2nd Eastern District Military Court sentenced blogger Ayan Bayande in absentia to six years in a penal colony on charges of inciting terrorism (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code). He was additionally prohibited from publishing content online for three years. Investigators allege that while abroad, Bayande “uploaded a video monologue containing public calls for terrorist activity intended to obstruct the use of the Russian Armed Forces.” The specific video in question has not been identified. Bayande is currently based in the United States, where he runs a YouTube channel called Profsoyuz Buryatiya ("Trade Union of Buryatia"), which has more than 35,000 subscribers.
