Media organization 'Atyrau Akparat' was sued by the Kazakhstan Authors Organization for more than 3 million tenge for breach of copyright law. This came as a result of the use of pictures by M. Zolotykhin on the Atpress.kz portal. Zoloykhin had granted the KAO the right to manage copyright claims on his behalf. The prosecution sought around 10 million tenge (about $21,000) in losses. However, the defence called this amount both unfounded and extreme. Zolotyhkin's photos were being used for important news articles, and, on google.kz his photos in the public domain come up first. Previously, Atyrau-Akparat LLP apologized to Zolotukhin for using his photos without permission and admitted copyright infringement. The photos were deleted after the copyright claim came to light.
