On May 14, in the capital’s Republic Square, where protests were held, the correspondent of the news website Alphanews.am Asmik Arakelyan called a police officer «dishonorable» after noticing how he insulted the mother of a serviceman killed at the front. In response, the officer, as it turned out later, Lieutenant Colonel Haykaz Jomardyan, the commander of the special purpose battalion of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, approached the journalist and said: «You are a reprobate, you are a scumbag». After this incident, an official investigation was launched against Haykaz Jomardyan.
