Askhat Niyazov, the journalist and author of the YouTube channel Obozhayu, was shooting a program about the events of January 2022. In Almaty, he was prohibited from filming. In the Essentay City mall, the film crew was not allowed to film inside or outside. In one of the city's elite residential complexes, the security guards demanded KZT 25,000 (approximately USD 55) from Niyazov to film an interview with residents.
