On January 4, environmental activist Artyom Sochnev was detained by police at the central square of Stepnogorsk during his live Facebook broadcast. Sochnev went on air from an individual picket in support of the Zhanaozen citizens protesting against the increase in the price of liquefied gas. At the time, no one but him and police officers were on the square. A phone was seized from Sochnev at the police checkpoint.
