On 17 September, the President of the National Medical Commission, Narek Vanesyan, filed a lawsuit with the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction against LLC “Zhoghovurd Newspaper Editorial Office”, seeking a retraction of information deemed defamatory and the payment of 4 million drams (over $10,000) in damages, as well as 160,000 drams (over $400) in state duty. The lawsuit was prompted by an article published on 3 September on the information website “Armlur.am”, owned by the aforementioned company. The article claimed that Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan had failed Vanesyan in a competitive examination for the vacant post of Director of the “Saint Gregory the Illuminator” Medical Centre and that, in the past, doctors had appealed to the Ministry of Health demanding that Vanesyan be held accountable for inappropriate conduct. The case is currently under consideration.
