On July 24, a court arrested journalist and former Free Buryatia Foundation vice president Anna Zueva in absentia on criminal charges of justifying terrorism online (Part 2, Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code) and failing to fulfil “foreign agent” obligations (Part 1, Article 330.1). Zueva was subsequently added to federal and international wanted lists. The journalist’s 77-year-old mother was summoned for a conversation by phone. She refused and suggested that they send her an official summons. In November 2024, the Ministry of Justice designated Zueva as a “foreign agent,” after which courts fined her at least five times under administrative protocols for violating “foreign agent” laws (Article 19.34 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). Zueva left her role as a TV presenter at Buryat channel ATV in 2019 and launched her own YouTube channel, which now has 70,000 subscribers. She left Russia in 2023.
