Security forces have opened a criminal case against TV Rain journalist Anna Mongayt on charges of spreading “fake news” about the Russian army (Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code). According to preliminary reports, the case is linked to posts on Mongayt’s Telegram channel from April 2022 and July 2023, in which she reported on Russian attacks on Odesa. Mongayt, who now lives in Europe, is being prosecuted in absentia. On July 18, three other TV Rain journalists—editor-in-chief Tikhon Dzyadko, presenter Ekaterina Kotrikadze, and correspondent Valeria Ratnikova—were also charged in a separate criminal case for “fake news” and violating “foreign agent” requirements.
