On 18 December, at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin as a group of archbishops and bishops calling for the resignation of the Catholicos of All Armenians were heading towards his residence to present their petition, and a gathered crowd of parishioners attempted to prevent this, a crush and scuffle broke out. As a result, Ani Nerkararyan, a correspondent for the news website Armenia Today, was injured. She told colleagues from another website, Aravot.am, that she was struck on the head, arms and legs, after which she lost her balance and fell. Police officers who were nearby provided her with first aid.
