On January 16, the Chairman of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan filed a lawsuit with Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction against the Chairman of Hayeli club (founder of the news website hayeli.am), editor of hayeli.am Angela Tovmasyan demanding to apologise for insulting her and pay compensation in the amount of AMD 1 million. The plaintiff also demands to collect AMD 530,000 as court expenses from the defendant. The reason for the lawsuit was the statement made by Angela Tovmasyan during the press conference of former diplomat and now oppositionist Edgar Ghazaryan held on December 25, 2023, in her club. She said that in the past, Alen Simonyan used to run under the feet of famous businessman Khachatur Sukiasyan, now MP. The lawsuit was admitted to the proceedings on January 24. The court also satisfied the plaintiff’s petition to impose a ban on the property and bank accounts of the defendant in the amount of AMD 1 million as a measure to secure the lawsuit.
