A criminal case has been opened against journalist and writer Andrey Soldatov on charges of failing to comply with the obligations of a “foreign agent” and of participating in the activities of an “undesirable organisation”. Over the past year, Soldatov has twice been held administratively liable under the “foreign agents” law and twice under the Code of Administrative Offences for participation in an “undesirable organisation”. Andrey Soldatov and Irina Borogan are known for their investigations into Russia’s security services. In 2022, it also became known that a criminal case had been opened against Soldatov on charges of spreading so-called military “fake news”.
