The Yoshkar-Ola City Court sentenced local blogger Andrey Filippov to a fine of RUB 1,800,000 in a case of spreading «fakes» about the army on the grounds of political hatred (Paragraph E of Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Filippov was convicted for his video «The war between Russia and Ukraine: a Ukrainian’s view», in which he discussed Russian propaganda techniques and inconsistencies in the Russian Ministry of Defence’s reports. Filippov was arrested in 2022; before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he produced videos in which he criticised the Mari El authorities and law enforcers and spoke out against coronavirus restrictions.
