Three penal colonies in the Kemerovo region - IK-5, IK-37 and IK-22 - filed a lawsuit to protect honour and dignity after a June publication about torture and beatings of prisoners. Novashov's co-defendants are the subjects of his material - human rights activists from the organization "Siberia Pravovaya" and former prisoners. The plaintiffs demand to remove part of the article and publish a refutation. They argue that the publication is aimed at "provoking disorder and interfering with the institution's stable operation.”
