Samarkand City Criminal Court fined the deputy editor-in-chief of the newspaper Samarkand Herald and administrator of the «Save Samarkand» group Anastasiya Pavlenko USD 533. She was found guilty under three articles of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Uzbekistan: Article 45 (violation of the inviolability of residence), Article 46 (disclosure of information capable of causing moral or material damage to a citizen), and Article 202-2 (dissemination of false information). Together with like-minded people, she is trying to oppose the demolition of a house formerly owned by the famous Soviet artist Pavel Benkov and listed as a cultural heritage site in Uzbekistan. The group is also investigating the use of funds from European donors in the construction of the landfill.
