On the night of January 4, in Saryagash, Turkestan Region, near the home of the editor-in-chief of the newspaper Saryagash-Info Amangeldy Batyrbekov, unknown assailants opened fire and wounded his son Dinmukhamed. Two months earlier, Batyrbekov had reported on Facebook that he was preparing an investigation into «What Connects the Deputy of the Turkestan Region Maslikhat, the Prosecutor of the Shymkent City Prosecutor’s Office and the Deputy Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Agency». The editor calls the persons mentioned in the publication as instigators of the crime. On January 21, Turkestan Region police detained suspects in the attempted murder of Batyrbekov and identified the ordering party. It turned out to be an official who valued the journalist’s life at KZT 5 million.
