The editor-in-chief of Rehiyanalnaya Hazeta (Maladzyechna) Aliaksandr Mantsevich was sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment and a fine of BYN 14,800 (about EUR 4,350) for allegedly discrediting the Republic of Belarus under Article 369-1 of the Criminal Code. This decision was made by the Maladzyechna District Court on November 3, 2023. The journalist was detained on March 15, 2023, after a search in his house. He was placed in the pre-trial detention centre № 8 in Zhodzina until the trial. On November 27, 2023, Aliaksandr was transferred to the pre-trial detention centre № 6 (Baranavichy).
