Popov became a suspect in the case of public calls to extremism on the Internet (Part 2 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). On March 3, Federal Security Service officers questioned him and seized all his equipment during a search. The reason was Popov’s posts on VKontakte. One of them said that one should «raise arms against their own liberal government» and then «carry the flames of revolution to a country or bloc of countries at war with Russia».
