The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against Nevzorov under an article on fakes about the Russian army (Paragraph «E» of Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to the investigation, on March 9 and 19, Nevzorov «published deliberately false information about the intentional shelling of a maternity hospital in the city of Mariupol by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation» on his Instagram account and YouTube channel. The press release of the Investigative Committee said that the publications were «accompanied by inaccurate photos of civilians affected by the shelling»: these were the photos taken at the scene of the tragedy by two Associated Press reporters.
