On June 11, the Krasnoflotsky District Court of Khabarovsk sentenced journalist and political commentator Alexander Kushnar - founder of the YouTube channel Newsader and former Radio Liberty correspondent - to eight years and one month in a penal colony. He was convicted of disseminating “false information” about the Russian army (clause “d,” part 2, Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code) and of failing to comply with obligations imposed on individuals labeled as “foreign agents” (part 2, Article 330.1). The court also barred him from administering websites for four years. The details of the charges were not made public. In March 2024, Kushnar - who has lived in Lithuania since 2014 - was placed on Russia’s wanted list. He was added to the “foreign agents” register in September 2022.
