The magistrate of Judicial District No. 5 in Magadan has sentenced Alesya Marokhovskaya, editor-in-chief of iStories (Important Stories), in absentia to 10 months of corrective labour, with 10% of her earnings to be paid to the state. She was found guilty of failing to fulfil her obligations as a “foreign agent” under Part 2 of Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code. Marokhovskaya was added to the register of “foreign agents” in 2021. Her criminal case came to light in December 2024, when her parents’ home was searched, and a month later she was declared wanted. The prosecution stems from her failure to submit reports to the Ministry of Justice.
