The brother-in-law of the arrested founder of Toplum TV Alesker Mammadli, doctor Aydyn Aliyev, has been dismissed from the private clinic. Aliyev links his dismissal to his public statement on the illegality of Mammadli’s arrest. On March 8, Toplum TV founder Alesker Mammadli and board member of Platform III Republic, who participated in the Institute for Democratic Initiatives, Ruslan Izzetli were detained in Baku. Law enforcers said they found the money in foreign currency during the searches of their flats, opening a criminal case under the article on smuggling. Mammadli and Izzetli said the money had been planted. On March 9, the court arrested both men for 4 months; their lawyers appealed the decision.
