Trolls and commentators on Facebook incited intolerance and threatened Alena Khomenko after expressing her opinion about the illegitimacy of the acting president on social media networks. The journalist has documented about 15 hateful comments addressed to her. A number of them contained xenophobic statements and ethnic hate speech, calls to leave Kyrgyzstan, as well as threats and gender-based insults. Khomenko told the Justice for Journalists Foundation expert that she noticed that some posts where she criticizes the authorities started to “disappear” from her Facebook page.
