Journalist from Brest, Aleh Supruniuk, has been sentenced to three years in prison to be served in a general-regime penal colony. He was found guilty of participating in an “extremist formation.” Before the trial, the journalist spent more than six months in a pre-trial detention centre. It was also reported that in December 2024, Supruniuk's home was searched; computer equipment and his mobile phone were seized, and he was taken in for questioning. Following the interrogation, a report was drawn up, and Suprunyuk was detained for 15 days for allegedly distributing “extremist informational materials.” Aleh Supruniuk is a journalist who covered social and political issues in the region. He worked for the newspaper Brestsky Kurier,, the online publication Pershy Rehijon, and collaborated with other independent media outlets.
